Igno Conversation Modes: Chat, Research, Study, and Code
Finkkle Igno offers four conversation modes — Chat, Research, Study, and Code — each tuned for a different kind of task. Switch modes any time mid-conversation.
Finkkle Igno has four conversation modes, each optimized for a different type of work. Choose a mode at the start of a conversation or switch mid-thread with a follow-up message — your history and context carry over.
Chat
Chat is the general-purpose mode. Use it for:
- Everyday questions and explanations
- Drafting content (emails, summaries, proposals)
- Brainstorming and planning
- Quick lookups and short transformations
Chat prioritizes clear, direct responses. It works well for open-ended conversations and iterative drafting.
Research
Research mode emphasizes sources and evidence. Use it when you need:
- Multi-source synthesis
- Fact-checked comparisons
- Literature or topic surveys
- Answers that cite their origins
Responses in Research mode include citations and are structured for easy scanning. Combine with the Deep Research plugin for live web crawling across many sources.
Example prompt:
*"Research the current state of battery technology for electric vehicles. Compare the top three approaches, cite your sources, and summarize the key trade-offs."*
Study
Study mode structures content for learning and retention. Use it to:
- Break a complex topic into digestible explanations
- Generate examples and analogies
- Create flashcards, quizzes, or revision checklists
- Practice with adaptive Q\&A
Study mode pairs naturally with the Study Mode plugin, which adds spaced-repetition and printable study decks.
Example prompt:
*"Teach me the key concepts in calculus I need for a machine learning course. Start with derivatives and work up to gradient descent."*
Code
Code mode focuses on implementation, technical reasoning, and working with data. Use it for:
- Writing and debugging code
- Explaining algorithms and data structures
- Refactoring and reviewing code
- Working with structured data, tables, and calculations
- Stating assumptions explicitly in technical analyses
In Code mode, Igno uses Dufus under the hood for implementation tasks. Code outputs include syntax highlighting and can be saved as artifacts or exported directly.
Example prompt:
*"Implement a rate limiter in TypeScript using a sliding window algorithm. Include tests."*
